FAQ:
Q. How many oak trees are there?
A. When I counted clockwise there were 18, and when I counted anti clockwise there were 19, so I stopped counting.
There are also 3 large accacias (is that how you spell it?), 1 plum tree and many hazelnut bushes.
Q. Will I have to do any gardening?
A. Only if the mood takes you, between meditating or lying in the hamock (2 free with every purchase) and 5 o clock tea.
I did cut the grass when I could no longer find my feet, and it is good to keep the paths free so that you can walk all around the pond, also it is a good sevice to the oak trees to keep down the ivy and it keeps you in good shape, but I have done the worst.
Q. Are the local inhabitants friendly?
A. They were sceptical at first, then curious. If you are English they will think that you are very rich (they own hundreds of acres of land but don't consider themselves rich)
but they could not figure out what a "rich" english man was doing building his own castle (read wooden chalet). I built a good relationship with the nearest farmer who is
into bio foods making his own wine (he doesn't trust any one else's) has very good eggs (taste better than the bio ones in the shops) chicken, rabbit. I have tried the eggs and the wine and can vouch for them.
Q. What about mosquitos ?
A. I had less problems here with mosquitos than in Pau the nearest large town. I suppose that the frogs eat the larvea.
Q. Is this pond stagnant water?
A. No, although there is no visible source of running water , the water of the pond is very alive as testified by the fish, water lilies and cistudes (a type of autoctonous turtle). The water level rises in winter and descends in summer, so there is sufficient interchange of water to avoid stagnation symptoms, also there is present a special type of plant thet oxygenates the water keeping it very much alive.
Please contact me directly for more information about the site the chalets and the price.
